How It Works

100% Secure Desktop Computer Recycling

Step 1

Protect your sensitive data

The best way to protect your data is to remove device locks and erase all personal information before recycling. Remember to back up important files to an external device first. Follow these steps:

-> How to prepare Apple devices for recycling
-> How to prepare Android devices for recycling

If the computer is damaged or you’re unable to do so, don’t worry, data will still be destroyed during recycling. Hard drive removal is available in-house for a small fee.

Step 2

Drop off your device

Bring your old, unwanted, or unused computers to a City eWaste drop-off for free recycling. Businesses may qualify for free pickups depending on volume.

Step 3

Data destruction and recycling

Your computer is processed by our in-house recycling team. Data is securely destroyed, and valuable metals and components are recovered.

FAQ

More Information About

Desktop Recycling

Who can recycle desktop computers?

What type of desktop computers can I recycle?

We accept all desktop computers, regardless of brand or condition. Discarded computers, non repairable computers, scrap computers, and other computer related parts (e.g. circuit boards, processors) are considered
electronic waste and should be recycled and disposed of properly.

How do I protect my sensitive business or personal data?

The best way to protect your data is to back up important files, remove passwords, and erase any personal or sensitive information before recycling. If the computer no longer powers on, your data will still be securely destroyed during processing. Hard drive removal is also available in-house for a small fee.

Do you provide a Certificate of Destruction?

Yes, certificates of destruction are available for
businesses upon request for regulatory compliance and internal reporting.

Is desktop recycling really free?

Yes, City eWaste provides free recycling for desktop
computers. Business pickup fees may also be waived for qualifying volumes.

What happens to my desktop computers?

After data is securely destroyed, desktops are
sorted and dismantled by our in-house team. Circuit boards, chips, heatsinks, metals, and other components that can be repurposed or recycled are separated.

Can businesses of any size recycle desktops?

Yes, both small and large businesses can recycle desktops. Free pickups may be available depending on volume.

We welcome anyone wanting to do the right thing and ditch those unwanted devices—households, businesses, schools, hospitals, estate sales, junk removal services, private organizations…you name it. If you’ve got old tech, we’ll make sure it finds a greener future.

At the end of the day, we’re here to keep e waste out of landfills and give a high-five to Mother Nature. Ready to join the cause? Come see us, and let’s put that outdated gear where it belongs—back into the recycling loop instead of gathering dust in your office or garage. Because taking care of our planet is always in style (unlike certain haircuts we won’t mention).

A good rule of thumb: if it has a cord or a battery, then we take it. Most items are free to recycle, but there are fees for items containing good amounts of glass or plastic. Download our 2025 price sheet.
