This is Our Story

From a Backyard Hobby to a Nationwide Franchise

City eWaste began as a backyard experiment driven by a curiosity of the growing pile of electronics that didn’t belong in a landfill. Today, we’re a nationally recognized ewaste company and America’s first ewaste franchise, helping businesses, residents, and municipalities recycle electronics, protect data, and recover value responsibly.

The Aha! Moment
01
On a sweltering Tennessee afternoon, a rain-soaked yard sale stopped Matthew in his tracks. A pile of ruined server blades, free for the taking, sparked a life-changing idea. That night, in a 6×10 shed with basic tools, his new tinkering obsession began.

Back then, Matthew’s days were split between running a vintage shop and freelancing in branding and web design in Franklin TN. With spare room in the back, a quick logo, website, Google Business Profile, and a no-frills name, Franklin eWaste was open. And boy, did the business come.

Municipal Validation
03
Franklin eWaste signed its first municipal contract with the City of Franklin. It was a real sign that this idea could work at a city scale. After all, between corporate ITAD giants and scrapyard hobbyists sit 340 million U.S. residents underserved in the middle.

Location, Location, Location!
04
Not long after COVID turned the world upside down, Franklin eWaste found its next home near Hillsboro & Bridge Street. The location was perfect, the team was strong, and everything felt like it was falling into place. Until the building sold and it took months of capital to get re-established.

The Evolution to City eWaste
05
6 years later, what started as a soggy yard sale had grown into a thriving business. In order to take its model nationwide, Franklin eWaste evolved into City eWaste, but the spirit of that sticky-hot Saturday remains. Because sometimes, the best ideas are the ones that catch you off guard.

America’s First eWaste Franchise
06
City eWaste became the first company in the United States to franchise electronics recycling, developing cutting-edge IP for streamlined materials management, process innovation, and AI-driven solutions. Their first franchise, a multi-territory deal covering 7 territories in Texas, has been awarded, and they’re just getting started.
